HID lamps produce light by striking an electrical arc across tungsten electrodes housed inside a specially designed inner glass tube. This tube is filled with both gas and metals. The gas aids in the starting of the lamps. Then, the metals produce the light once they are heated to a point of evaporation. Like fluorescent lamps, HID lamps require a ballast to start and maintain their operation.
HID Flashlights and Searchlights are great for outdoor use when you need a very bright and very compact light source. For Search and Rescue, HID is hard to beat.
HID lights can also be used for tactical applications were an area needs to be secured with a wall of light. Depending on the circumstance, the light can be placed into a room or doorway, temporarily blinding anyone that looks in the lights direction. This allows the operators on the "dark" side of the wall to move tactically and remain undetected by the target.
Because a short warmup time of 15-20 seconds is needed for most HID lights, they are not recommended where momentary light is required. We do have models with instant stike output that produce approximately 70% of thier useable light when first turned on. If you need assistance, please feel free to give us a call and we'll be glad to help you select the right light for your application.
